Thinking about accommodation for September?
It's currently too early to find somewhere to live for the new academic year.
In many other cities outside London, there are specific student areas where properties are let to students every year. This means that many students will have already found somewhere by January. In contrast to this, in London there are no student-specific areas with students living across the city. As a result, there are very few properties advertised specifically for students for September at this time of year, and those that are advertised now may not be competitively priced. Properties usually come on to the market 1-2 months before the start date, so if you are looking for September, the best time to look is around July and August.
The official start to the housing hunt is our Housing Fair. This year, it will be held between 11am and 3pm on 6th May in Senate House. Not only is it a great opportunity to meet landlords, agents, halls and other useful organisations, but it is also the first day that offers of accommodation for the new academic year will be advertised on our database. Offers will continue to be added regularly throughout the summer period and beyond.
New immigration checks for tenants
From 1st February 2016, landlords and letting agents will be required to carry out new checks relating to the immigration status of their tenants. You can find out more information on our Tenants Right to Rent leaflet and on the government website.
